Free Lower Thirds Maker — Broadcast-ready animated lower thirds with your name, role and colors

Pick one of 19 hand-crafted lower-third designs — horizontal (16:9) for YouTube and broadcast, or vertical (9:16) for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Type your name and role, add an avatar or button label where the design supports it, and download a rendered MP4 — free. Every design is a real motion-graphics animation (enter + exit), not a static template.

What is the Free Lower Thirds Maker?

The Free Lower Thirds Maker renders real motion-graphics lower thirds — the animated name tags you see in interviews, podcasts, YouTube videos and live streams. Designs come in both horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 (Reels, Shorts, TikTok); the page adapts to whichever design you pick. Unlike static template packs, every design is a full enter-and-exit animation that renders to an MP4 you can drop straight onto your timeline. You customize the text (and, where the design supports it, an avatar and a button label) right in the browser.

How to use it

  1. Pick a design — 19 hand-crafted lower-third animations in 16:9 and vertical 9:16, each with its own layout and motion.
  2. Type your name and role; add an avatar or button label if the design has one. The preview updates live.
  3. Pick a color scheme where available.
  4. Hit Download — the free MP4 (with a small mographr.com watermark) renders in about a minute.

Frequently asked questions

Is this lower thirds maker really free?

Yes. Rendering and MP4 download are free. The free file carries a small mographr.com watermark in the corner. A $1 upgrade — no watermark, transparent background, commercial license — is coming very soon.

Can I use the videos commercially?

The free watermarked version is intended for personal use and previews. The upcoming $1 version includes a commercial license, and the Mographr Creator plan ($20/mo) covers commercial use with full customization and transparent exports.

Do I get a transparent background (alpha channel)?

The free download is an MP4 with an opaque background. Transparent WebM/ProRes exports are part of the $1 upgrade (coming soon) and the Creator plan.

What resolution and format do I get?

An MP4 (H.264) at the design's own canvas — 1920x1080 for the horizontal designs, 1080x1920 for the vertical ones. The animation includes both the enter and the exit, so you can trim it to your cut.

Do you have vertical lower thirds for Reels, Shorts and TikTok?

Yes — some designs are authored at 1080x1920. Pick one and the whole editor switches to a vertical preview; the rendered MP4 is vertical too.

Can AI assistants use this tool?

Yes — the tool is fully scriptable. AI agents can list designs and render videos through our MCP server or the REST API, and receive the free watermarked MP4 back. See mographr.com/llms.txt for the machine-readable guide, which carries the current endpoint URLs.

How is this different from Canva or template packs?

Each design is generated motion-graphics code, not a locked template: enter/exit choreography, real easing curves, per-design layouts. And if you need something none of the designs cover, the full Mographr studio generates a custom animation from a text prompt.
